Peter Edwards




Peter Ivan Edwards (1973) is an American composer whose works have been performed at the Darmstadt Ferienkurse für neue Musik, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Wien Modern, MATA, and June in Buffalo. He studied music composition at Northwestern University; UC, San Diego; and the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany. His principle teachers were Chaya Czernowin and Nicolaus A. Huber. He teaches music theory and composition at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore.

This course introduces students to strategies for style writing of common practice European art music. The issues of harmonic progression, voice leading, and texture are addressed in addition to relevant compositional concepts like repetition, variation, and elaboration. The course aims to offer a creative space even within the restrictions of stylistic emulation.
