Join designer, maker, and Big Cartel shop owner Melanie Abrantes for a 30-minute class on developing cohesive product lines. Perfect for independent makers and creative businesses, you'll learn lessons from her real-world experience — as well as business and merchandising essentials — to grow your shop and brand.
Key lessons cover:
- questions to ask when developing new products
- considerations when naming your brand and telling its story
- best practices for growing your brand through "seasons" and over time
This class will be especially useful for those that already have ideas for products they'd like to create and sell, but even those who are just curious about getting started will discover useful insights. All you need to begin is an open mind!
Share 3 products from your branded line.
Your assignment is to develop a branded product line of at least 3 items. Your goal is to create pieces that feel cohesive and tied together with a captivating brand story — the story of you and your line. Your brand, approach, and storytelling should draw people in and create a community around the products you love.
From ceramics to t-shirts, we'll all have different products to share. Don't worry if you don't have the tangible products yet — you can share sketches, photos, or screengrabs of your online shop.
You can also share how you've developed products based on other Big Cartel Skillshare classes. See the classes on building and merchandising your online shop. (Note: Neither is a prerequisite for this class.)
I can't wait to see your creativity at work!
