El objetivo de este curso es fomentar en pensamiento científico en los alumnos para ayudarles a tomar mejores decisiones profesionales, personales y sociales.

Para lograr este objetivo, el curso destila conceptos de ciencias y filosofía a un nivel accesible al público general, ilustrándolos con ejemplos actuales de diversas áreas.

Syllabus

WEEK 1
En busca de la verdad: una breve historia de la ciencia.
En este módulo se hace una introducción a los objetivos y características de la ciencia, para después revisar brevemente su historia desde la antigüedad hasta nuestros días.

WEEK 2
¿Cuál de todas las verdades es mejor? La ciencia como fenómeno social.
La ciencia intenta encontrar verdades, pero veremos que las verdades dependen del contexto, del lenguaje, de la lógica, de la sociedad y de la cultura.

WEEK 3
¿Cómo llegar a las verdades? Métodos científicos
En ciencia se manejan distintos conceptos y métodos para intentar descubrir verdades. Veremos cómo cambia la manera de hacer ciencia y la relevancia de la creatividad en la búsqueda del conocimiento.

WEEK 4
¿Qué hago con las verdades? Ciencia en la vida cotidiana.
La ciencia nos puede ayudar a tomar mejores decisiones. En este módulo se practicará cómo se puede aplicar el pensamiento científico en la vida cotidiana para nuestro beneficio y de quienes nos rodean.

WEEK 5
¿Cómo se propagan las verdades (y las mentiras)? Hechos, creencias, opiniones e incertidumbre.
Las ideas se propagan socialmente. En este módulo se mencionan diversos ejemplos de cómo se propagan opiniones y comportamientos, los cuales pueden ser benéficos o dañonos para las personas que los adoptan.

WEEK 6
¿Y si no encuentro una verdad? Más allá de la ciencia
En este último módulo se identifican los límites de la ciencia. Sin embargo, el pensamiento científico nos puede ayudar también más allá de estos límites.
