This course is presented in a simple Arabic language. It is composed of nine weeks through which basic terms used in modern genetics are explained. Then, the definition of genetics and its applications in modern medicine are highlighted. Then, stages of human life cycle are noted so as to understand the basic modes of inheritance. The course then focuses on the definition of genetic disorders, their causes, their types and suffering of affected people and their relatives. The course discusses controversial genetic issues between regions, laws and medicine in particularly therapeutic abortion.
Methods of drawing family pedigree in symbols are given in a simple way. The main goal of this course is to adopt preventive methods of genetic disorders by different types of genetic counseling and by discouraging the practice of consanguineous marriages. At the end of the course, learners should perform a research or an awareness activity so as to get the university certificate.
This nine weeks course aims to increase public awareness about genetic diseases in general and specific disease prevention options and to reduce the practice of consanguinity as a risk factor for these disorders.
