Your turn!
1. Pick up a box of fresh doughnuts. The more colours, the better.
2. Set up an interesting doughnut still - life display. Use a bright fabric for your doughnuts to sit on.
3. Sketch the composition using either watercolours or diluted acrylics. Ideally, use a Burnt Sienna colour to complete the sketch. if you're feeling a little nervous, use a pencil first!
4. Once satisfied with your sketch, begin with colouring the doughnuts. Use any colour that will suit your image. Be generous with your paint application, especially in the top section representing the glaze, icing and sprinkles.
5. Work on the ground colour using flat and broad strokes of your brush or palette knife. Make sure that the canvas surface is covered with a generous amount of paint.
6. Go back to your doughnuts to refine their shapes. Use smaller, brushoff details. Don't forget to emphasize various planes to create volume.
7. Finally, add some shadows. Don't make them too dark!
8. Have fun!
