Many teachers are interested in using games in their classrooms, but can’t find a right context to adopt games that match their curriculum. This course provides an introduction to the educational value of games, game genres, gaming literacy, and new literacy. Teachers will play games and analyze how gaming can cultivate learners’ new literacy, understand how game debriefing can help scaffold students’ learning, and identify factors affecting the adoption of games in educational contexts.

Este curso se centra en ilustraciones y materiales gráficos ligados a la vida urbana, al ocio y al consumo. Este tipo de imágenes tuvieron una alta tasa de reproducción, comercialización y circulación en las ciudades modernas del siglo XIX, un proceso empujado por los cambios tecnológicos iniciados con la industrialización. Las ilustraciones que analiza este curso muestran nuevas prácticas sociales y culturales, hábitos de consumo, y formas de observar la imagen y la ciudad, anunciando así una incipiente cultura de masas.
Con el objetivo de comprender el contexto y los principios de este proceso, analizaremos una variedad de imágenes: ilustraciones y caricaturas publicadas en la prensa, rótulos publicitarios, carteles, las primeras postales y otro tipo de ephemera. Se explorarán estas imágenes en relación con las capitales donde fueron producidas, prestando especial atención a Madrid, a la vez que miramos otras capitales europeas como Londres y París. Se pretende así inscribir a Madrid y su ilustración gráfica en su contexto más amplio con el fin de mostrar cómo las manifestaciones culturales de diversas ciudades estaban conectadas entre sí.
