Janice Stewart
Janice Stewart is a faculty member in the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice (GRSJ) and Chair of Critical Studies in Sexuality (CSIS) at the University of British Columbia. In her role as Chair of CSIS and Chair of GRSJ Undergraduate Programs, she has taken a leadership role that involves the creation, fostering, and supporting of equity, inclusion and global citizenry—in the classroom, across the university and out in communities. She has been an Advisor with the Office of Access and Diversity for many years working on projects that support student engagement, inclusion, and fair play on the UBC Campus. She is the co-founder of the Indigenous Pedagogies Network which seeks to bring awareness to teaching and learning Indigenous knowledge. Her pedagogical leadership and scholarly priorities emerge from a deep commitment to educational excellence and the pursuit of effective and transformative pedagogical strategies. She is a leadership coach accredited by the International Coaching Federation. During her career at UBC, through their engagement in educational leadership, she has made significant interdisciplinary contributions that create meaningful and enriched student learning opportunities and also, critically engage with social justice issues. She contributes extensively to the development of teaching practices that prioritize multimodal literacies and technologically-supported knowledge production as well as intercultural understanding and social sustainability.
