Le bien-être des animaux est une préoccupation sociétale désormais majeure. Mais de quoi parle-t-on quand on fait référence au bien-être animal? Qu’est-ce qu’est réellement le bien-être animal ? Est-il le même pour tous les animaux ? De quoi dépend-il ? Le bien-être d'un animal en plein air est-il forcément toujours meilleur à celui d’un animal en bâtiment ? Suffit-il de s’occuper d’un animal pour qu’il soit bien ? Peut-on vraiment évaluer le bien-être des animaux, objectivement et scientifiquement ou est-ce purement subjectif ? Enfin, peut-on vraiment l’améliorer, comment et quels sont les avantages pour les animaux et pour les humains ? Toutes ces questions sont importantes quand on parle du bien-être des animaux, et notamment des animaux d’élevage ! L’objectif du MOOC « le bien-être des animaux d’élevage » est d’apporter des réponses à ces différentes questions.

Sa prise en compte et son amélioration sont de plus en plus importantes pour différents acteurs :

  • les consommateurs dont les actes d’achat sont de plus en plus influencés par les conditions d’élevage des animaux,
  • les associations de protection animale qui œuvrent pour le bien-être des animaux depuis longtemps,
  • les distributeurs ou les entreprises qui engagent des initiatives d’amélioration ou de labellisation,
  • les enseignants ou les formateurs qui ont à intégrer cette notion dans leurs formations,
  • les pouvoirs publics, qui doivent tenir compte de ces attentes dans les politiques publiques,
  • et bien entendu les éleveurs, vétérinaires, ingénieurs ou techniciens qui tous les jours sont en contact avec les animaux et sont les premiers acteurs de leur bien-être.

L’objectif du MOOC « le bien-être des animaux d’élevage » est d’apporter des réponses à ces différentes questions. Pour cela, il est structuré en trois modules :

  • un module « comprendre » qui pose les bases théoriques,
  • un module « évaluer » qui propose des éléments utilisables sur le terrain,
  • un module « améliorer » qui présente quelques solutions.

Le MOOC a été conçu par une équipe pédagogique regroupant des enseignants-chercheurs, des chercheurs et des vétérinaires spécialistes du bien-être des animaux d’élevage. Cette quatrième session du MOOC est centrée sur les animaux d’élevage et reprend les cours enrichis au cours des précédentes sessions. Nous vous proposons également la possibilité d’obtenir une attestation de réussite au MOOC pour certifier l’acquisition de compétences.

Format
Chacun des trois modules dure deux semaines, soit six semaines au total. Les activités reposent en majorité sur des vidéos de cours mais d’autres activités sont également au programme (entrevues, illustrations d’évaluation en vidéos, exercices, tchat en direct, bibliographie…). Les apprenants devront suivre tous les cours des modules et au moins les cours sur le bien-être d’une espèce particulière (bien-être des bovins, ou bien-être des porcins par exemple).

Prérequis
Ce MOOC est destiné à toute personne désireuse de mieux comprendre le bien-être des animaux. La progression pédagogique fait que ce MOOC peut être suivi sans prérequis spécifiques. Toutefois, il est particulièrement adapté pour des personnes engagées dans un cursus de formation en production animale ou des intervenants en élevage (éleveurs, ingénieurs, vétérinaires…).

Plan du cours

Semaine 1 : attentes sociétales, évolution historique et réglementations
Semaine 2 : les animaux êtres sensibles, définition du bien-être animal
Semaine 3 : les principaux indicateurs de l’évaluation du bien-être animal
Semaine 4 : le processus d’intégration et applications concrètes en élevage
Semaine 5 : amélioration du milieu physique, social et humain, amélioration de la santé et prise en compte de la douleur
Semaine 6 : le cas particulier du transport et de l’abattage, la génétique comme voie d’amélioration, labélisation. Les cours sur le bien-être des différentes espèces seront ouverts au cours de cette semaine

Évaluation
L’évaluation se fera à l’issue de chacun des trois modules par l’intermédiaire de quiz portant sur les cours. Une attestation de suivi avec succès sera délivrée à partir de 60% de bonnes réponses. Des quiz d’autoévaluation seront disponibles à l’issue de chacun des cours.
