University of Bayreuth

The University of Bayreuth is a dynamic, research-oriented campus university. Established in 1975 as one of the first universities in Germany with an interdisciplinary founding mission, it is now considered a pioneer in innovative research and teaching.
We offer our students from Germany and abroad an ideal learning environment, academic support, and attractive, internationally oriented programmes of study, many of which held entirely in English. There are currently around 13,500 students enrolled in more than 160 different programmes offered by the University’s seven world-class faculties: Faculty of Mathematics, Physics & Computer Science, Faculty of Biology, Chemistry & Earth Sciences, Faculty of Law, Business & Economics, Faculty of Languages & Literatures, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, Faculty of Engineering Science, and Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition & Health.
The University of Bayreuth is among the best young universities in the world, as can be seen by its position in the Times Higher Education (THE) worldwide ranking of universities “under 50”. It has been an international leader in African Studies for many years, the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS) being part of our Excellence Cluster “Africa Multiple”, funded by the German federal and state governments. High Pressure & High Temperature Research, carried out at the Bavarian Research Institute of Experimental Geochemistry & Geophysics, has also established a strong reputation worldwide. Polymer research at the University is a frontrunner in the funding ranking published by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Complementing its scholarship, the University of Bayreuth has a tight international network of strategically selected university partnerships.
We grant our students and researchers a teaching and research environment with plenty of room for creativity, in order to strike a balance between academic freedom, scientific progress, practical orientation, and social and cultural responsibility.
Come be a part of our tight-knit communities in Bayreuth and Kulmbach, where our students take centre stage.
