The U.S. healthcare system is the costliest in the world; yet, while having some of the best healthcare in the world, there is room for improvement in both quality and cost. Value-based care (VBC) is a way to achieve value (i.e., better outcomes at lower cost) that is bipartisan and is being embraced by both federal government and private-sector providers and health plans. VBC is a vastly different approach to delivering and paying for care that requires consumers/patients, providers, and health plans/insurers to make transformative changes.

After taking this course, you will have a better understanding of VBC, will be able to apply practical tools to aid in transitioning to VBC, and will be prepared to keep up-to-date with the ever-changing landscape that is VBC.

Texts: No purchase is required; Health IT and EHRs: Principles and Practice, Sixth Edition, by Margret Amatayakul, published by the American Health Information Management Association is recommended.

Assessments:

The course includes eight assessments in the form of multiple-choice, true-false, and/or matching quizzes. These quizzes are intended to test your understanding of the concepts presented in the course, supplemented with reading assignments on the Internet. Optional activities are intended to broaden the scope of the course material and encourage future learning and sharing.
