• Evaluate system modeling tools and languages.

Syllabus

WEEK 1
An Introduction to Model-Based Systems Engineering
Welcome to Model-Based Systems Engineering! By enrolling in this course, you are joining the many students and professionals who wanted to advance their skillset as they develop a stronger understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering concepts. In the first week of the course, we'll introduce you to the overview and layout of the course. We will also review some foundational concepts related to MBSE. By the end of this module, you will know more about Model-Based Systems. Let's get started!

WEEK 2
Systems Engineering and MBSE
Now that you have explored key concepts relating to systems architecture, you are ready to expand your knowledge of Systems Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering. In the second week of the course, we will examine various types of Systems Engineering such as MBD and MBE and compare them with Model-Based Systems Engineering.

WEEK 3
iMBSE, Methodology, and an Introduction to System Modeling Languages
Now that you have examined MBSE, you are prepared to learn more about Integrated Model-Based System Engineering (iMBSE). In the third week of the course, we will investigate iMBSE, define some related terminology, and introduce you to System Modeling Language.

WEEK 4
System Modeling Language (SysML)
Since you have been introduced to modeling languages, in Week 4 we will focus on SysML. You will learn about SysML versions and diagrams. You will examine the four pillars of SysML and its design workflow process. Finally we will compare SysML to OPM. Throughout our exploration we will apply these concepts to examples.

WEEK 5
System Modeling Language and Tools and the MBSE Solution
In the final week of the course, you will be introduced to ARCADIA and Capella. You will learn more about system modeling tools. You will examine the MBSE solution ROI. To conclude this course, you will take a comprehensive exam on the key concepts that you have learned in the past five weeks.

Using Systems Thinking to Tackle the Climate and Biodiversity Crisis (FutureLearn)

Discover how switching to a systems mindset could help overcome the global environmental challenges we face today. Take a big picture approach to the climate and biodiversity crisis. With crises as vast, complex, and interconnected as climate change and biodiversity loss, focusing on one aspect of the problem will never be enough. Systems thinking offers a new way of seeing and understanding environmental issues, which could radically change how we go about tackling them. On this two-week course from the University of Reading, you’ll learn what systems thinking is and how it could transform your approach to the climate and biodiversity crisis.

Systems Thinking In Public Health (Coursera)

This course provides an introduction to systems thinking and systems models in public health. Problems in public health and health policy tend to be complex with many actors, institutions and risk factors involved. If an outcome depends on many interacting and adaptive parts and actors the outcome cannot be analyzed or predicted with traditional statistical methods. Systems thinking is a core skill in public health and helps health policymakers build programs and policies that are aware of and prepared for unintended consequences.

Creating a Team Culture of Continuous Learning (Coursera)

There is mounting concern that organizational groups and teams often fail to learn from their past experiences. It’s pertinent to address this issue as groups and teams are often the main ways that work gets done in organizations. In this course, we examine the main reasons that groups and teams are often ineffective, which include: the lack of organizational structures and support for teams and groups; the lack of understanding and emphasis on learning; misaligned reward structures.
