Grant Proposal (Coursera)

The course provides guidance on developing a strong application that will allow reviewers to better evaluate the science and merit of your proposal. You will learn how to put your ideas into proper words, arrange a clear and concise paper and search grant market for potential funder. You will also learn how to react to negative feedback from reviewers and resubmit your proposal. The course focuses on useful project management tools and possible budget pitfalls.

Syllabus

WEEK 1
Ready to start
In this module you will discover how to formulate the rationale of you future research and create its model in a clear and concise way. You will also learn how to effectively search and select a funder. Besides, you will be able to estimate your and your organisation's strong and weak points to make the grant project and aspirations more realistic.

WEEK 2
Ready to count and demonstrate
In this module you will discover tools which help to organise project work in an effective way. Lectures provide basic information about scheduling the project and team management. Another crucial skill you will acquire is how to estimate and justify project costs, as well as describing budget in the narrative. You will also be able to demonstrate information in numbers and visuals, which is a valuable feature of any grant proposal.

WEEK 3
Ready to write
In this module you will learn how to develop and arrange sections of your proposal, write the best headings for them, and prepare the abstract. You will also learn how to make your narrative persuasive and appealing. Besides, you will solve the problem of compressing text to the right size and keeping it readable. Another important skill you will acquire is preparing a brief oral presentation of your project in case funders want to meet you.

WEEK 4
Ready to submit and implement
In this module you will learn how to assess your proposal before submission and react to reviewers’ feedback afterwards. You will also learn how to revise your proposal for resubmission in case of failure. Two more skills for mastering are reports on processing and project closing.
