Entendiendo la depresión a lo largo del ciclo vital (Coursera)

En este curso vamos a tratar de eliminar cualquier estigma detrás de la depresión, educar sobre qué es un mito y qué es un hecho en cuanto a esta condición, describir cómo se puede manifestar a lo largo de la vida, sus características cuando aparece simultáneamente con una enfermedad médica y hablaremos de estrategias de tratamiento.

El curso se divide en cuatro módulos, en cada uno podrá conocer conceptos claves, recursos creados por diferentes organismos internacionales como la Organización Mundial de la Salud y el testimonio de pacientes, con el fin de identificar de su propia experiencia lo que significa esta condición. En el primer módulo, dividido en cinco lecciones, se presenta una perspectiva general sobre la definición y características, diagnóstico y mitos y verdades sobre la depresión. El segundo módulo, dividido en cuatro lecciones, se enfoca la depresión en niños, niñas y adolescentes, presenta sus características, recomendaciones para médicos y pacientes, así como aspectos clave de su diagnóstico e incluye un repositorio de recursos clave para consultar. El tercer módulo se enfoca en la depresión en personas con una enfermedad médica concomitante. Finalmente, el módulo cuatro se enfoca en los diferentes tipos de tratamientos disponibles para manejar la depresión

Syllabus

WEEK 1
Generalidades de la depresión
Bienvenido al primer módulo del curso Entendiendo la depresión a lo largo del ciclo vital. En este módulo veremos la definición y algunos conceptos generales acerca de la depresión, en particular de la forma en la que podemos diferenciar las reacciones de ajuste del trastorno depresivo. Revisaremos información con respecto a la carga de la depresión en la salud pública en el ámbito mundial y regional. Hablaremos sobre el duelo y sus diferentes fases, revisaremos algunos mitos comunes alrededor de la depresión y trataremos el tema del suicidio entre otros temas dirigidos al personal de la salud.

WEEK 2
Trastorno depresivo en niños y adolescentes
Bienvenidos al Módulo 2: “Trastorno Depresivo en Niños y Adolescentes”. La niñez, incluso la temprana infancia, así como la adolescencia, no son edades ajenas a este trastorno. Por el contrario, son edades con mayor riesgo de padecer trastornos afectivos incluida la depresión, y cuando ocurre, si sucede en etapas tempranas del desarrollo y de la construcción de la personalidad, pueden afectar procesos cuyas secuelas en algunos casos, son permanentes. A pesar de lo anterior, la depresión en niños y adolescentes es poco conocida, poco detectada y por lo tanto ignorada y no tratada. Muchos niños y adolescentes deprimidos son ignorados, confundidos con otras condiciones o simplemente tratados como niños con pataletas, consentidos o con mal comportamiento. La premisa que la infancia es la “edad más feliz de la vida” lamentablemente no es cierta para muchos niños y adolescentes. En este módulo develaremos esa realidad, aprenderemos la importancia de detectar y tratar este trastorno, las diferencias con los fenómenos normales de esa edad y como prevenirla.

WEEK 3
Depresión y enfermedad médica
Bienvenido al tercer módulo del curso Entendiendo la Depresión a lo Largo del Ciclo Vital. En este módulo discutiremos la relación entre la depresión y la enfermedad médica general. Además, hablaremos de la importancia de reconocer la depresión en la enfermedad médica general y fortalecer el enfoque de los trastornos depresivos cuando existe una comorbilidad médica.

WEEK 4
Terapias y Tratamientos
Bienvenido al cuarto módulo del curso Entendiendo la Depresión a lo Largo del Ciclo Vital. En este módulo discutiremos sobre los tratamientos y terapéuticas de la depresión. Hablaremos específicamente de la epigenética y su relación con la depresión. También mencionaremos qué es la psicoterapia, que tipos de psicoterapia existen y cómo funciona para tratar enfermedades como la depresión. Finalmente discutiremos algunas medidas no farmacológicas de la depresión.
