These courses are French basic-level language programs developed by the Foreign Service Institute (FSI). The courses have been used for over thirty years by United States government diplomats and officers for learning the French language. Other popular language programs (including Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur) rely heavily on the methods pioneered in this exclusive course.

This MOOC FSI Basic course has 80 hrs audio and 1,000 pages. The programs are designed to help students reach a level of proficiency which will enable them to participate effectively in most formal and informal. The MOOC course has FSI material, with French local meetups, G+ hangouts & Twitter Chats weekly.
