University of Malaya
The University of Malaya (UM) is the oldest national university in Malaysia. Its beautiful 750-acre campus lies within the heart of Kuala Lumpur city. The university comprises of 12 faculties, two academies, three centres and four institutes that comprehensively cover various disciplines including medicine, science, technology, social sciences and humanities. Additionally, the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) is the biggest teaching hospital in Malaysia.
In 2006, the University of Malaya was accorded a research university status. Since then, six research clusters and six UM Centres of Excellence were established to promote research activities in UM. In 2015, it was given a 6-star rating by the Ministry of Higher Education and maintained its status as the top research university in Malaysia in the last few years.
It is ranked 27th in the QS Asia Ranking and 133rd in the QS World Ranking in 2016. The University of Malaya is committed to leading the nation in the fields of research and innovation, and aspires to become one of the top 50 universities in the world by 2020.
