International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian network, with 190 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and 17 million volunteers present in virtually every community around the world.
The IFRC acts before, during and after disasters and health emergencies to save lives and build the resilience of vulnerable people and communities worldwide. It is guided by seven Fundamental Principles – humanity, neutrality, impartiality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality– and provides assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class, or political opinions.
Every year, the IFRC reaches 160.7 million people through long-term development programmes; 110 million people with disaster response and early recovery programmes; 9.1 million people with food support, and 4.5 million people with emergency shelter.
It is a grassroots network with global reach, advocating with and for local communities and marginalised groups, and bringing their voices to the highest-level international fora. Together, we work in partnerships within the network and with external agencies to strengthen individual and community resilience and alleviate suffering wherever it is found.
