Russian Language А1+: From Elementary to Basic 2 (Coursera)

This course is aimed at those who have already completed the first part of the specialization and want to continue learning the Russian language and exploring the culture of Russia. The course will help learners to prepare for the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL, or ТРКИ, Basic Level — A2).

Every module of this course contains essential words and grammar constructions that will help enrich learners' vocabulary and written speech. Exercises and quizzes are split into sections according to the structure of TORFL — Vocabulary and Grammar, Reading, Listening, Reading, Speaking.
This course covers various grammatical topics such as 'Complex sentences with the conjunction когда', 'Complex sentences with the conjunctions если, чтобы', 'Complex sentences with the word который', 'У меня есть ...', 'Verbs любить, нравиться, увлекаться, интересоваться', 'Predicative Adverbs' and many more. The vocabulary includes useful words for describing your life, body, emotions, and feelings.

Syllabus

WEEK 1
Unit 1. Человек, о котором я хочу рассказать
This week we are going to learn the vocabulary related to people’s life cycle, different ages and respective social statuses, personality traits and qualities. In the grammar section, we continue to learn new types of complex sentence. This week we are going to focus on the complex sentences with conjunctions когда, если, чтобы, and a very useful word который.

WEEK 2
Unit 2. Моя повседневная жизнь
This week’s vocabulary includes the phrases that are essential for phone conversations. In the grammar section, we continue to learn new types of complex sentence. This week we are going to revise the construction of possession and learn its negative form, learn constructions with любить/нравиться and увлекаться/интересоваться/заниматься, as well as find out how to use pronouns свой/своя/совё/свои and the reflexive pronoun себя.

WEEK 3
Unit 3. У врача
This week we are going to learn the vocabulary related to human body and learn some words and phrases that will be extremely helpful if you ever have to visit a doctor in Russia. Grammar section contains such topics as predicative adverbs and their use in the context of feelings or physical conditions, constructions of obligation and necessity and formation of imperatives.

WEEK 4
Советы другу
In the final week of our course you are going to practice the vocabulary and grammar learnt in within the past three weeks in two peer-review assignments. In writing assignment you are required to write a letter to your friend and provide him/her with some tips on how to lear Russian. In the speaking assignment you need to respond to 3 situations.
