Greg Heileman

Faculty leader of ECE’s Digital Rights & Knowledge Engineering Research Group (DRAKE), Greg Heileman also serves as an associate chair in the ECE Department as well as the director of the ECE undergraduate programs. In addition, he is the faculty advisor for the student branch of the IEEE.
Dr. Heileman held ECE’s Gardner Zemke Professorship from 2005- 2008. In 2001 he received the Lawton-Ellis Award for combined excellence in teaching, research and student/community involvement. He received ECE’s Distinguised Teacher Award in 2001, and the School of Engineering’s Teaching Excellence Award in 1995. He teaches courses in algorithms and data structures, software design, theory of computing, information theory and game theory.
A senior member of the IEEE, his research interests are in information security, digital rights management, game theory and machine learning. During 1998 he held a research fellowship at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and in 2005 he held a similar position at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He is the author of the text Data Structures, Algorithms and Object-Oriented Programming, published by McGraw-Hill in 1996, and has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications.
