David Bailey

David Bailey is a senior economist in the Government Finance Division of the IMF’s Statistics Department, where he has been working since 2019. Previously, he worked at the United Kingdom’s Office for National Statistics for 10 years, where he was the Deputy Director for the Public Sector Division with responsibility for the compilation and dissemination of the UK’s monthly, quarterly and annual public sector finance statistics. He has provided technical assistance and training on government finance statistics (GFS) and public sector debt statistics (PSDS) in a number of countries in Africa, Asia and Europe. David holds a Masters Degree in Natural Sciences (Physics) from the University of Cambridge and worked in the field of computational physics prior to turning to statistics. He is a fellow of the UK’s Royal Statistical Society and worked for 7 years in education statistics before his involvement in government finance, and public sector debt, statistics.
