Mathew L. Ouellett
Matt Ouellett is the founding executive director of the Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI) at Cornell University. His education development program administration, teaching, and research interests focus on multicultural teaching and organizational development in higher education. As such, his work seeks to engender systemic change for social justice while honoring individual transformation processes.
Prior to joining Cornell, Matt served as associate provost and director of the Wayne State University Office for Teaching and Learning. Earlier, Matt held increasingly responsible positions at the Center for Teaching at the University of Massachusetts Amherst concluding with 5 years as director and senior lecturer.
For the past 30 years, Matt has taught well-received undergraduate and graduate courses in social justice and diversity, psychology (the University of Massachusetts Amherst), teaching inclusively in higher education (Cornell, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and University of Wisconsin, Madison), and the implications of race and racism for social work practice (Smith College School for Social Work).
Matt was awarded the Bob Pierleoni Spirit of POD Award for outstanding lifetime achievement and leadership in the enhancement of teaching, learning, and faculty development from the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education (POD) in 2012.
Matt earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nevada Reno, a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Goddard College, and his doctoral degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
