人工智慧分為強人工智慧及弱人工智慧。其中強人工智慧著重於模擬人類智能，而弱人工智慧則著重於類似智能的應用表現，也是這門課的重點。達成智能的表現有許多方法，其中一種快速有效的方法即為搜尋。本課程給予人工智慧一般性的介紹，並且深入探索三種常用的搜尋：不利用問題特性的uninformed search，使用問題特性的informed search，及針對零和對局的adversarial search。課程中除了講解各種搜尋的技術之外，也同時探討它們的優缺點及應用範圍，使同學易於應用其相關技術。
