  • mieux se représenter la nature et les relations entre les grands changements globaux ;
  • mieux comprendre les moyens que mobilise la biodiversité pour y répondre ;

Strong sustainability and Europe (FUN)

Sustainable development, popularized by the Brundtland Report, was defined at the end of the 1980s in three spheres (economic, environmental and social). It is this representation that continues today to be disseminated to the public and to large companies. The objective of this MOOC is to question the major challenges of development for Europe in a perspective of strong sustainability (energy, climate, biodiversity, food, mobility, agriculture, natural resources, education...) and to propose alternatives.

Sex from Molecules to Elephants (Coursera)

Sexual reproduction can be defined as the sort of reproduction by which each organism arises from the fusion of two cells. This generally implies, with some exceptions, that each organism has two parents. This description might sound trivial it is however not at all. Before the appearance of sex, organisms reproduced solely by division. One cell divided into two cells, no partners, no fusion, just simple cell division.

Environmental Challenges: Justice in Natural Resource Management (FutureLearn)

How do we ensure that the difficult decisions about the management of natural resources are just and fair for all? When looking at different societies and cultures around the world, it is interesting how ubiquitous the principles of justice are. It is part of our human nature to think about equality, and consider fairness as something that we do naturally. However, in practical terms, equality is hard to achieve.

Environmental Challenges: Human Impact in the Natural Environment (FutureLearn)

Complexity in nature arises from a myriad of simple interactions. How can this lead to an unpredictable dynamism? Complex patterns in ecology are not always causal and predictable. Populations have their own dynamics that can be independent of external environmental conditions. In this course we look at the way that natural systems are organised; although living systems are complex, there are also some fairly constant patterns and relationships.

What is Climate Change? (Coursera)

In this course, learners will become familiar with the scientific evidence that demonstrates human-caused climate change. We will explore how greenhouse gases cause the Earth to warm, and why our recent warming is attributed to human activities. We will also discuss where our climate is headed, including anticipated future temperature, precipitation, and sea level. Learners will engage with the consequences of these changes on our ecosystems, infrastructure, and communities.

Urban Ecology Design (edX)

Learn how to contribute to a more biodiverse, nature-inclusive and sustainable built environment by using nature-based solutions in your designs and policies. As our urban habitats become increasingly complex, the need to address the challenges of accommodating a growing human population becomes ever more pressing. These challenges, intricately intertwined with the built environment and its wider surroundings, encompass the perils of heat stress, loss of biodiversity, land degradation, flood risks, and the urgent need to adapt to a changing climate.

Introduction to Environmental Science (edX)

A scientific study of the natural world and how it is influenced by people. Major topics include: food, energy, human population, biodiversity and global change. Environmental science is the study of patterns and processes in the natural world and their modification by human activity. To understand current environmental problems, we need to consider physical, biological and chemical processes that are often the basis of those problems.
