In this course we will teach you what IPR are - with a special focus on patents. Also this course will look at the importance of patents in the world of biotechnology - and what you actually can patent.

Intellectual property rights (IPR) has a great impact on innovation development and society. In Science, Engineering, and Business, we seek to create wealth through innovation in products, designs, manufacturing processes, and business systems or models. However, innovation leaders often FAIL to benefit from their discoveries and inventions when they are unable to adequately protect those innovations. This course provides learners with an understanding of how copyright laws can be used to protect business innovation using a combination of lectures and case examples for discussion.

This MOOC aims at introducing the phenomenon of copyright to the layman. It focuses primarily on professionals or non-professionals who are creating their own works, regardless of the form or genre. This MOOC focuses on practical tips and knowledge, and is most suitable for authors and creators of (digital) learning materials. It will try to answer questions such as: What is acceptable use? Where does plagiarism begin? What could be the consequences of (consciously or unconsciously) copying? This MOOC discusses several concrete cases that are relevant to this target group.
