Eco-Dyeing: Nature's Paint (Creating Unique Art Using Leaves & Flowers) (Skillshare)
In this class you will learn the simple process of creating beautiful and unique prints on fabric and paper using only leaves and flowers with these household items: Alum (found in the spice aisle or larger containers on Amazon); White Vinegar; Substrate of Choice (different papers, book pages, doilies, cotton fabric, muslin, etc.) I use this mixed media paper; Paint Brush or Spray Bottle; An old pot for boiling; Twine; Brick or stones to weigh down your bundles; Flowers and high tannin leaves (examples include maple, oak, birch, nut tree leaves, fruit tree leaves and herbs)

Optional: tea bags, coffee, turmeric, food coloring

No artistic skills are required. In fact, if you have always wanted to make beautiful paintings, but felt you didn’t have the skill, this is the perfect way to create that original art you’ve always dreamed of. Anyone can do it including school-aged children!

This class may also be of particular interest to those who enjoy the outdoors and find beauty in nature. You can collect your leaves and flowers from your favorite hiking trail, use botanicals from a momentous bouquet or go on a neighborhood hunt.

Your eco-prints will look gorgeous just framed on their own, but for our project we will be making mini accordion journals with our printed papers and fabrics.

These are easy to put together and make great keepsakes, perfect for gift-giving or to commemorate a life event. All you will need are your prints and a few basic art supplies:

1. Mini canvas boards or heavy card board

2. Double sided tape or glue stick

3. Masking tape (can also use book binding tape)

4. Awl or Hole Punch

5. Elastic Cord or Ribbon (I use these from Amazon.)

6. Your eco-dyed papers and fabric

Optional: charms and mini tassels

I cannot wait to see your designs and journals!
