With over 28 years of experience in the health care services industry Dr. Tener Goodwin Veenema is a nationally recognized expert in disaster preparedness and public health emergency management. In 2006 she founded the TENER Consulting Group, LLC, bringing razor sharp assessment skills combined with innovative problem-solving to assist federal and private sector organizations with strategic planning and disaster/emergency services needs. Specializing in workforce development and improved disaster response capacity, Dr. Veenema is a frequent speaker, author and consultant to organizations nationwide, providing strategic guidance, technical expertise and an array of technical consulting services in disaster preparedness and emergency medical response, and emerging clinical decision support analyses.
Dr. Veenema served as senior consultant to the American Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina, and continues to serve as consultant to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Veteran’s Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, and the National Commission on Children & Disasters. Dr. Veenema is the author of two books and the Award winning ReadyRN Curriculum for Disaster Nursing and Public health Emergency Preparedness (Elsevier/ MC Strategies) and Red Cross ReadyRN (National American Red Cross).
Dr. Veenema is a fellow of the National Academies of Practice (2004) and the American Academy of Nursing (2009). She was also selected a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow (2004-2007)and as Senior Fellow in Nursing Policy & Philanthropy at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and at the Center for State Health Policy at Rutgers University (2008-2009). Dr. Veenema serves on the editorial board for the AMA sponsored Journal of Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness and Jane’s Handbook for Disaster Preparedness.
