Thomas Baunsgaard

Thomas Baunsgaard is Deputy Chief in the Tax Policy Division of the IMF Fiscal Affairs Department. In that role, he leads the IMF’s tax policy work on extractive industries. He also oversees the multi-donor trust fund on Managing Natural Resource Wealth which supports capacity building and technical assistance by the IMF in natural resource-rich developing countries. Mr. Baunsgaard has worked in the IMF for almost two decades, and was previously resident representative in Tanzania and Malawi. Before joining the IMF, he worked as a tax policy advisor in the Internal Revenue Commission in Papua New Guinea and as country economist in the World Bank’s West Bank and Gaza Office.
