Sami Ben Naceur

Mr. Sami Ben Naceur is currently deputy division chief of the African Division at ICD. He was the Chief of Internal Economic Training Unit where he managed around 100 annual events to train IMF economists (Courses, Seminars, Open Forum, Book launch…). Previously, he was the Deputy Director of the IMF-Middle East Center for Economics and Finance in Kuwait where he managed the training activities of the IMF, World Bank, OECD and WTO in the Arab region. He also worked for two years as a Senior Economist in the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the IMF, where he led chapters of the IMF flagship reports the World Economic Outlook (WEO) and the MCD Regional Economic Outlook (REO), and participated in ART IV missions in several countries in the region such as Algeria, Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia. He also worked at the IMF Institute as a Senior Economic where he led research projects and trained government officials on Macroeconomics and Financial issues. Before joining the IMF, he was assistant professor and chair of the Management Science Department at the Faculty of Economics and Business (Free University of Tunis) from 1993-2004, Assistant Professor of Finance at IHEC Carthage from 2004-2009, Associate Professor at ESSEC Tunis (2009-2017) and Full Professor at the University of Tunis (2018-). He has also been during the same period an expert in banking and finance with the European Commission, the African Development Bank, the IMF and several consulting firms in Tunisia, Europe and in the MENA region and published several papers in top academic journals. He holds with great honors a diploma of “Grandes Ecoles” from INSEEC School of Business and Economics (France), a Joint Certificate in Marketing (INSEEC and University of Texas at Austin), an MSc. in Management Science from the University of Tunis, and a PhD in Finance from Paris Sorbonne University.
