Mieke van Driel

Professor Mieke van Driel is Head of the Primary Care Clinical Unit and Discipline of General Practice at The University of Queensland. After training as a General Practitioner in The Netherlands, Mieke worked in primary health care assistance projects for Médecins Sans Frontières in Asia and Africa. With a Master's degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, she embarked on an academic career at the University of Ghent, Belgium in 1998. Her PhD thesis on the implementation of evidence in clinical care explored the medical, contextual and policy related aspects of evidence that can facilitate its use in day to day patient care.
Mieke's main interests are in translating and implementing evidence into practice and global health with a special focus on vulnerable populations in our society. Mieke also practices as General Practitioner in an Aboriginal Medical Service.
