Ernest R. Blatchley III
Ernest (Chip) R. Blatchley III received his Ph.D. in Civil (Environmental) Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1988. He joined the faculty at Purdue immediately thereafter and currently holds a joint appointment as the Lee A. Rieth Professor in Environmental Engineering in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering and the Division of Environmental & Ecological Engineering. The focus of activities within the Blatchley group is on physico/chemical processes of environmental engineering, with emphasis on disinfection processes, photochemical reactors, and water supply in developing countries. He has received internal and external awards for his teaching, research, and service activities. He holds four US Patents, has written 13 chapters in reference books, more than 110 papers in refereed journals, and recently completed writing of a book on the theory, methods, and applications of UV radiation. He is a Diplomate Environmental Engineer of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Indiana.
