Dr Elaine Lee is Associate Dean International and Head of Postgraduate and Post-qualifying Studies in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. After initially pursuing a legal career, graduating from Edinburgh University with an LLB in 1990, a desire to change direction led to a career choice of midwifery. After working for NHS Fife for a number of years, Dr Lee moved full time into the University of Dundee in 2003. Undertaking a number of roles since then, she is now lead for the School’s postregistration and postgraduate areas of activity.

This free online course will explore the impact of compassionate care, for both practitioners and users of health and social care. The importance of compassionate care in health and social care has been brought to the fore in recent years by high-profile public inquiries into the mistreatment and sometimes deaths of patients at, for example, Morecambe Bay and Mid Staffordshire hospitals.

This course will explore what inequalities are and how they can be reduced through health and social care. This course explore the ways that health and social care service design can lead to, but also address, inequalities. Inequalities are caused by very similar factors everywhere, they just look a little different, depending on the setting.
