This course is the complete Japanese basic-level language program developed by the Defense Language Institute (DLI). The course has been used for over thirty years by United States government for learning the Japanese language.

Japanese (日本語 Nihongo?, [nihoŋɡo] ) is a language spoken by over 120 million. This course is the complete Japanese basic-level language program developed by the Defense Language Institute (DLI). The course has been used for over thirty years by United States government for learning the Japanese language. Other popular language programs (including Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur) rely heavily on the methods pioneered in this exclusive course. The course contains over 25 hours of educational audio with Student text (downloadable). The program is designed to help students reach a level of proficiency which will enable them to participate effectively in most formal and informal. The reference manual has over 360 pages of exercises and drills that supplement the audio portion of the course.
