Rudy Konings

In 1999, Rudy joined the Institute for Transuranium Elements in Karlsruhe (Germany) of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. There he currently is the head of the Materials Research Unit. His research interests are nuclear fuels and actinide materials, with particular emphasis on high temperature chemistry and thermodynamics. He has an appointment as professor at the Delft University of Technology (Netherlands), where he holds the chair of ‘Chemistry of the nuclear fuel cycle.’
Rudy Konings graduated from the Utrecht University with a MSc in Earth Sciences in 1985. He then joined the Netherlands Energy Research Foundation ECN as researcher in the field of thermodynamics of nuclear materials and defended his PhD at the University of Amsterdam in 1990. He stayed at ECN and subsequently at NRG (Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group) working on nuclear fuel-related issues.
He has authored or co-authored more than 250 scientific articles in peer reviewed journal, 13 book chapters, and was editor-in-chief of the major reference work 'Comprehensive Nuclear Materials'.
