Renato Pérez

Mr. Pérez is a Senior Economist in the IMF’s Balance of Payments Division since 2017. He is the Coordinator of the External Debt Statistics Team and member of the Coordinated Portfolio Investment Survey Team and the Coordinated Direct Investment Survey Team. During 2011-2017, he worked at the Financial Institution Division on Monetary and Financial Statistics (MFS) and Financial Soundness Indicators (FSIs). He has conducted technical assistance missions to numerous economies around the world as well as coordinated courses on external sector statistics, MFS, and FSIs. He has contributed to the revision of the FSI Compilation Guide. He also served as Senior Advisor to Executive Director at the IMF Board (2006-2011).
Prior to joining the IMF, Mr. Perez served as Undersecretary in the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Ecuador—Head of the Public Debt Office—and the Central Bank of Ecuador. He also worked for several years in a private bank as Head of the Risk Management Office. Mr. Pérez holds a BA in Economics from the Catholic University of Ecuador, and a MA in Economics and Finances from INCAE Business School, Costa Rica. He taught Finance in Universidad del Pacífico (Quito, Ecuador) and lectured on several academic centers.
