Rena Papadopoulos
Founder and Head of the Research Centre for Transcultural Studies in Health at Middlesex University, London. I am a co-author of ‘Transcultural Care: A guide for health care professionals (1998)’ and the editor of ‘Transcultural health and social care: Development of culturally competent practitioners (2006)’ as well as the co-author of two books in Greek, one on Health Promotion (2010), and one on Transcultural Nursing (2011). I am a founding member and the current elected president of ETNA the European (but increasingly international) Transcultural Nursing Association, http://www.europeantransculturalnurses.eu/
I am a research professor, a teacher, a supervisor to doctoral students, a writer and a life-long learner. I have been a nurse and a midwife, held various senior academic positions, and various volunteer positions on community groups.
My main research interests are culture/ethnicity/diversity and health, inequalities in health, co-creation/co-production of knowledge, cultural competence and culturally competent compassion.
I like reading philosophy and ethics, learning about space, enjoy listening to all genres of inspirational music and learning about new technologies.
