Josep M Serra-Grabulosa




Josep is a Doctor of Psychology and a professor with tenure at Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychobiology at the University of Barcelona (Spain). He directs research into "The cerebral basis for school learning disorders”,integrated into the neuropsychology group at the University of Barcelona, coordinating a multidisciplinary research group. Josep is currently heading up research on a number of projects (http// in coordination with the Sant Joan de Deu Hospital (Barcelona, Spain). His work as a professor involves coordinating study and lecturing for different courses within the Psychology Faculty's undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Dr. Serra-Grabulosa has also worked extensively teaching postgraduate, masters and doctorate courses. He is a consultant for Lucataps for the development of digital technologies aimed at the diagnosis of school learning disorders.

The sailors in a round the world regatta, race around the globe from west to east for three months, sailing in watches of four hours. They sail down the Atlantic from north to south, with little variation in longitude, but descending the latitudes of the planet, going from the northern winter to the southern summer. They them round Antarctica, crossing longitudes, gaining a day on the calendar as they go. A situation like this takes its toll on their biological clocks and sleep patterns and their cognitive capacity and physical performance are affected. In this course you will learn the foundations of the biological patterns governing sleep and performance in general, it's application to solo and double-handed ocean sailing.
