Joel Mills

Joel graduated in graphic design at Camberwell School of Art in 1995. He worked as a graphic designer at Japanese fashion house Michiko London Koshino where his design work was part of London Fashion Week. Roles in several studios and a specialism in the use of Mac-based systems followed, and a move to the North-East in the late 1990s began his work in education.
He has been a lecturer, programme leader, educational manager, and eLearning consultant. In 2007 Joel became a member of the Chartered Society of Designers and ran his own design business between 2003 and 2009, with a range of national and international clients, and opportunities to champion industry requirements and standards across the learning field.
Since 2009 he has undertaken projects with Kaplan Learning, Essex University, and Northumbria University working on research projects in the fields of mobile teaching and learning workflows. Joel is currently working at the University of Hull as an academic and advisor on all aspects of technology enhanced learning and pedagogy. His current research interest is in the field of virtual learning spaces and their relationship with the physical world.
