Eira Carballo Cárdenas

Eira is a lecturer at the Environmental Policy group at Wageningen University. As part of her PhD, Eira studied citizen science practices in the context of coral reef conservation in the Dutch Caribbean. She was interested in understanding what motivates people to join citizen science initiatives and how motivations change in time. Moreover, Eira looked at the potential of digital sensor technologies, used by citizen scientists, to democratize knowledge about the (marine) environment.
Eira believes in the power of knowledge co-production for sustainability and transformative action. She sees online education as an inclusive tool to empower diverse groups of people to contribute to positive change.
