Dale Stephens

 

 


 

Dr. Dale Stephens CSM, is an expert in the law of armed conflict and national security law. He is a Captain in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve and spent 20 years as a permanent officer before taking up his present appointment at Adelaide Law School. Dale has advised on numerous operational topics, including the application of the law of armed conflict, rights of overflight and maritime navigation, piracy, weapons law and counterinsurgency operations. He has deployed twice to East Timor (INTERFET & UNTAET) and twice to Iraq (Bagdad) and has experience in National, Combined and United Nations forces contexts. Dale has participated directly in international treaty negotiations at UNESCO. He was also a member of the select group of experts that drafted the Harvard Manual on International Law Applicable to Air and Missile Warfare.
