An Ansoms, PhD in Applied Economics, is a Professor at the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. She teaches various courses on topics in relation to sustainable development and qualitative research methods. Her research aims to understand poverty and inequality dynamics in the Great Lakes Region (Africa). More generally, she studies sustainable development challenges in rural environments where extreme land poverty combines with post-conflict contexts. Her more recent publications have appeared in World Development, Development and Change, Food Policy, African Affairs, the African Studies Review, and the Journal of Modern African Studies, among others. She is co-editor of the book “Natural Resources and Local Livelihoods in the Great Lakes Region: A Political Economy Perspective” (Palgrave, 2011).
