Pascal Peduzzi




Pascal Peduzzi is head of the Global Change & Vulnerability Unit at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP/GRID-Geneva) for which he is working since 1998. He holds a PhD and a MSc in Environmental Sciences, with specialisation in remote sensing and GIS. He leads a team of scientific researchers to quantify the effects of environmental degradations on populations vulnerability and impacts on ecosystems. He designed the RiVAMP methodology for quantifying the role of ecosystems in mitigating risk and impacts from climate change. He was the coordinator of the Global Risk Analysis for the 2009 Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction and is one of the Lead Author of the IPCC report on extreme events. He is the author of various scientific publications and provided numerous conferences to governments and the general public to raise awareness on the consequences of human impacts on the environment.

This course provides an overview of climate change adaptation for the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) with a focus on the environmental perspective. It will present the key concepts regarding the issues of adaptation to climate change and the methodological tools needed to analyse challenges faced by SIDS, in order to propose sustainable solutions.
