Lisa Wainwright has held several positions at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago: Dean of Faculty, Vice President of Academic Affairs (present); Interim Dean of Faculty (2007 – 2010); Dean of Graduate Studies (2004 – 2008); Professor, Art History, Theory, and Criticism (2003 - present); Interim Dean of Graduate Studies (2002 – 2004); Undergraduate Division Chair (1996 – 2001). Her educational background: BA, cum laude, 1982, Vanderbilt University; MA, 1986, and PhD, 1993, University of Illinois. Lectures: "Decadent Ornament," Los Angeles; "Rauschenberg and After," Dallas; "Pink Decay: The Femme Fatale in Contemporary Art, " South Carolina; "Ed Paschke and Toulouse Lautrec: Picturing the Demi-Monde," Chicago. This dynamic course focuses on the history of modern and postmodern art from the 19th and 20th centuries, with an emphasis on major works found in the collection of the renowned Art Institute of Chicago. Painting, sculpture, photography, and other media, placed within a larger socio-political context, will reveal how aesthetic expression proves a compelling barometer of the modern human experience.
