Dave Arthur

Coming from England to play rugby union in Sydney in the late 1980’s Dave has a diverse background in business ownership and management having operated a number of businesses. He has a long record of major consultancy through his company DSA Consulting Services having worked with Mastercard International, Pacific Rugby Limited (PRL), University of New England, the Australian Sports Commission, the National Rugby League, Greyhound Racing New South Wales and South Sydney District Rugby League Club as well as numerous local government authorities and other generally sport based organisations.
As a former academic, he complements his practical experience with unrivalled theoretical knowledge. Academically his work has been published in a range of internationally renowned journals and his first book, International Cases in the Business of Sport was published in 2008 (a second edition is currently underway). In addition, he has authored numerous book chapters on various aspects of the business of sport, sport management, sport education, event management, sport marketing and is currently researching and writing a number of books. Dave has also disseminated much of his non-commercially sensitive work through industry and academic conference presentations and is widely regarded as pre-eminent in the field of online sport business education having developed the world’s first, fully online sport business course. Dave is often called upon as an ad hoc commentator on the business of sport by international news organisations including the BBC, ABC, and Reuters.
Dave recently left Southern Cross University to pursue his consultancy work on a full time basis with a clear intention to synthesise his sport business/sport research/sport education knowledge. Dave’s major specialisations within the sport business sector are research, education, strategy and sport organisation. He revels in short to medium term projects that have the potential to make a difference.
