MD, MSc, PhD, Associate Professor in International Health at Global Health (IHCAR) unit, Department of Public Health Sciences, Karolinska Institutet

Asli is a senior lecturer with extensive experience in Global Health education. She has played a key role in developing global health courses offered at IHCAR to full programmes both at the Masters level (Master in Global Health) and PhD level (World Health Programme). Asli has been part of the team that established one of the first research schools with a focus on global health, The Research School for Global Health.

Her current area of research includes HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Behavioural aspects of vaccine trials in low-income countries, Migration and Health. She has worked in different parts of Africa including Somalia, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda. Asli is an MD from Somalia with a Masters of Medical Sciences (Mr. Med. Sc) in Immunology of Infectious Diseases from Karolinska Institutet and a PhD in Immunology from Stockholm University.

Understanding challenges and solutions to global health issues from an inter-disciplinary perspective. Global Health is a new field within public health sciences that integrates the knowledge from fields such as epidemiology, medicine, economy and the behavioral sciences. The main aim of the course, An Introduction to Global Health, is to describe and analyze variation in health between and within countries. This will provide an understanding of causes of the variation.
