Want to take better photos with your Smartphone? Let’s explore some simple tips and tricks that will improve your smartphone-ography. Hi, my name is Deanna, I’m a Skillshare instructor, a photographer, and an illustrator. I’m coming to you from my live-work studio on the West Coast, I grew up on the East Coast and have been an instructor for over a decade. Today, we are going to learn how to take some great photos with our smartphones.

All you will need for this class is a smartphone and a desire to use it to take photos. In the following lessons, I am going to provide you with some simple, understandable, easy to implement tips to help you create amazing photos with your phone.

The project for this class is to take 5 photos using what you learned here in the class.

They can be any subject you choose, you can choose 5 different subjects or use 1 single subject.

The course is going to take you through how to hold your smartphone to take great photos, composition, exposure, how to tell a story with your images, and how to take better photos.

Here are some prompts to get you taking photos with your new skills.

1. Balance your exposure.

2. Use the rule of thirds.

3. Zoom in to your subject with your feet.

4. 4.Turn off your flash and use natural light.

5. 5.Capture a series of 3 photos that tell a story. Capture a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Taking a few minutes to do some post-production will also help to improve your smartphone-ography. Doing a quick auto fix, and using the crop tool to make sure your horizon is straight. You can use the colour balance to correct any strange colour casts.

I recommend a few options you can get for free in the coming lessons.

Filters are a great option, choosing a set and using it consistently gives your social media feed a nice consistent look and feel.
