Metal Air Batteries (IST)
This course is intended for Master students and researchers with special interest in energy storage. Main goals: understand the working principle of a metal-air battery; recognize the main applications of metal-air batteries; identify the components of a metal-air battery and their function; identify the different metals that can be used in a metal-air battery and compare their advantages and drawbacks.

- Different metals used as anode: characteristics, advantages and drawbacks;

- The future of metal-air batteries in energy storage.




Pedagogical strategies

This course is organized in three main topics, and each topic will take one week. The topics include videos that will be complemented with support notes. The course also includes a discussion forum in which the participants can ask questions to the tutors and share ideas with the peers.


Assessment methods

At the end of each topic there is a quiz to be answered in order to allow the progress to the next lesson. Each set of quizzes at the end of each video has a weight of 10% in your final grade. At the end of the course there is a final assessment composed of a peer review exercise and case study that allows students to use the knowledge acquired during the course in a real-world exercise. The peer review has a weight of 20% as well as the case study, giving a 40% weight in the final grade for the final assessment.
