Students will learn the main instrumental techniques of characterization and analysis of historical materials, and they will be able to interpret the results of the different analysis and tests in order to take decisions in practical situations related to intervention in heritage. In addition, students will be able to prescribe intervention materials in heritage so as to achieve the greatest possible compatibility with the existing materials.

This course focuses on the characterization of historical materials, which is one of the main disciplines for conservation and restoration of built heritage. This knowledge is key to architects, restorers and archaeologists worldwide. This course centres primarily on the practical application of theoretical knowledge.
