This course explores issues affecting United States certificated air carriers operating domestic and international flights during normal, abnormal, and emergency situations. It offers a behind the scenes overview of the long- and short-term planning and coordination required to safely and efficiently operate thousands of passenger and cargo flights each day.

Presented from the perspectives of an airline Chief Operating Officer, the Control Center, Gate Operations, and passengers, the course will cover operational control, dispatchers, the Operational Control Center, airline flight and ground personnel, gate operations, and safety.

Course participants will discuss:

- The strategic airline planning and coordination required to safely and efficiently transport 850 million U.S. passengers annually on 9 million airline flights

- The role of and responsibilities within an Airline Operations department

- The role of and responsibilities within an Airline Operational Control Center with emphasis on the Operations Manager and Dispatcher

- The pre-departure activities that occur while an aircraft is at the gate

- Government oversight and compliance of U.S. based airlines with regard to passenger expectations
